Jared E. Moffett serves as the Director of Career Services and the Career Services Center at the University of the District of Columbia’s new Community College. As an educator and leader at the Community College, he is responsible for the implementation of career counseling, career education, career networking, and career resources.
Mr. Moffett has held numerous positions throughout his personal career development in the fields of education and psychology.
Most recently, Mr. Moffett was employed at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) as a career counselor, instructor, special assistant, assistant coordinator of counseling, and coordinator of cooperative education and internships. As a coordinator at NOVA, he founded and managed the new Cooperative Education & Internship Services office while also authoring the Cooperative Education & Coordinated Internships Handbook for the College. As an instructor, he developed a course textbook known as “Career Development and Student Success” and a career development model to be utilized in the career courses he taught in the student development academic department. As a career counselor, he implemented a new career assessments system, career services website, and job database. Furthermore, he created several courses at NOVA to include a special topics course for declaring college majors, career education course, SCEP/STEP cooperative education courses to facilitate USA Government internships, and an online based internship course utilized by all academic departments at the College.
In addition, Mr. Moffett worked many years in K-12 education with Baltimore City Public Schools as a high school guidance counselor specialized in school improvement for college readiness as well as career and technical programs. Furthermore, he has worked outside of K-12 and higher education to include other sectors such as addictions, corrections, mental health and weight management.
Mr. Moffett holds a masters of education in school counseling as well as a bachelors of science in psychology (major)/sociology (minor) and a certificate in child & family psychology from Frostburg State University in Western Maryland. In addition, he is currently completing coursework towards a doctorate of behavioral health with a focus in weight management.
Lastly, Mr. Moffett is committed to educational high impact practices as well as the education professionals’ core competencies to include being a dedicated professional, collaborative bridge builder, instructional leader, continuous assessor, educational advocate, and reflective decision maker.
